Chinese Women Association of Cleveland Annual Report for 2023

The Chinese Women Association of Cleveland (CWAC), established in 1997 with 266 dedicated members, is devoted to supporting women of Chinese and Asian descent as they navigate contemporary challenges. Our organization addresses issues such as gender discrimination, social injustice, domestic violence, and economic empowerment, while also championing the traditional virtues of Asian culture and recognizing the indispensable role of women in modern society.
In addition to our annual events like the International Women’s Day celebration, Food Bank with Families, and Summer Picnic, CWAC actively engages with the broader community through participation in events such as the annual Cleveland Asian Festival and Cleveland’s One World Day, contributing to the vibrant celebration of Asian culture in our area. We remain steadfast in our dedication to providing valuable resources and support to our members.
Our monthly workshops are designed to empower women, and in 2023, we intentionally organized events catering to seniors. These included activities like Tea Parties, Mother’s Day Jewelry Making, flower arrangement sessions, and Chinese Flute Learning workshops, among others.
Furthermore, In 2023, CWAC had the great honor of collaborating with esteemed organizations and individuals such as Prof. Ye Fan Glavin, May Chen, Chia-Min Chen, Susan Wong, Jin Huo Community Inc., Asian Services in Action, Cuyahoga County Board of Health, and numerous community partners. Together, we contributed to conducting a groundbreaking study on COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and social determinants of health in the AAPI population. This collaborative effort involved partnering with seven other community organizations representing diverse AAPI communities. Through this partnership, the research team organized eight focus group discussions and administered 200 surveys, comprehensively assessing the barriers, assets, and potential interventions related to COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and social determinants of health among the AAPI population. This study represents a pioneering endeavor in public health research dedicated to the AAPI community. As a direct outcome of our collaborative efforts, the AAPI Health Coalition was established, reaffirming our commitment to addressing critical health issues affecting our communities and fostering collaborative solutions for a healthier future.
In 2024, our commitment to supporting Asian women in the neighborhood remains steadfast. We will expand our efforts by hosting more events specifically tailored to address the needs of seniors in our community. Additionally, we are dedicated to fostering partnerships with other organizations representing minority ethnic groups that share our mission of empowering women and addressing social issues. Through these collaborations, we aim to amplify our impact and create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all.
